What does effective professional development look like? How does a school
or district develop and implement a digital age vision for student learning?
How can schools best prepare and support teachers as they adopt new instructional
practices in the digital-age classroom?
Led by Ed Coughlin, Metiri Group consultants work with states, school
districts and providers of professional development services to design
exciting and effective programs tailored to clients' specific professional
development needs. We approach professional development from a systems
perspective: comprehensive, effective and efficient professional development
must fully account for student learning needs, educator proficiencies
and organizational goals.
Professional Development Services Include:
Visioning
The Metiri Group has developed a library of scenarios and examples that
can help educators in your organization develop the mental images of powerful
use that must serve as the first step in a professional development process.
Metiri Group consultants visit hundreds of schools each year in search
of powerful stories that can inform and motivate your staff. Through our
recent partnership with the North Central Regional Educational Laboratory
(NCREL), we developed a series of video excerpts
of excellent programs presented in the context of the enGauge framework.
Needs Analysis
The Metiri Group has significant
experience with conducting needs assessments, gap analyses and audits
of technology effectiveness. We can help your state or district identify
the student, educator and organizational needs that should drive your
professional development planning. For TEACH Wisconsin, the Metiri Group
recently conducted a study of 25 exemplary professional development programs
around the State and provided direction for the next generation of professional
development grants and initiatives. Click

Program Design
Metiri Group principals have designed complex professional development
initiatives at the state, regional and school level. We specialize in
helping districts use technology as a design factor in all of their teaching
and learning initiatives. At the state level, Metiri can help your state
department design and administer initiatives that identify and extend
existing effective professional development practices, create new designs
for professional development, and deliver these designs to the districts
you serve. The Metiri Group recently facilitated the development and publication
of a comprehensive tool for the Indiana Department of Education called
"Eight Steps to Effective Professional Development."
Training and Facilitation
Metiri Group consultants present at conferences and training events across
the nation on topics covering the entire spectrum of education technology
and school reform. We recently facilitated a series of conferences for
the Indiana Department of Education attended by hundreds of administrators,
a workshop for school technology planning teams in Clark County, Nevada,
and organized an event for over 2000 educators in Ohio. See our Presentations
page for more information on where to find and how to book Metiri Group
Consultants.
Program Evaluation
Metiri Group consultants can help your school, district or state evaluate
the impact of professional development initiatives where it counts: in
the classroom.
