Digital Differentiators: 1 to 1 Learning Are your schools tapping the full learning potential of 1 to 1 computing? A recent comprehensive research paper found, across a wide range of studies, that “students use laptops primarily for writing, taking notes, completing homework assignments, keeping organized, communicating with peers and their teachers, and researching topics on the Internet.” The question policymakers are asking is about return on investment. To date most such deployments have not considered social networks as a leverage point in the development of expertise, the opportunities for metacognition through eCommunication, the value of tacit versus explicit knowledge, or the power of authentic learning. Join this session to hear about research and emerging trends on these leverage points and to discuss how such ideas should be considered in the planning, professional development, curriculum, and lesson design in 1 to 1 computing. |
