PROJECT DIRECTOR

Barbara Lesley is Project Director for the Metiri Group where she manages and contributes to projects pertaining to policy and practice for K-12 learning technology. In this capacity, she also acts as Project Manager for the Regional Educational Laboratory Mid-Atlantic Fast Response Studies and select Randomized Control Studies. Other projects involve leadership in technology initiatives for Fortune 500 companies, state education agencies and education professional organizations.

Formerly, Ms. Lesley served as Senior Manager, Education Leadership and Professional Development, for Apple, Inc. Her responsibilities included the creation and implementation of professional development initiatives for K-12 educators, including the initial launch of the Apple Professional Development program and products. Previous to that position, her roles included Senior Field Training Manager for Apple, Inc., Systems Support Manager for Xerox Corporation, and public elementary school teacher. She received a B.S. in Human Development and a multiple-subject teaching credential from the University of California, Davis.

SENIOR ASSOCIATE

Susan Williams, Ph.D is a Senior Associate at the Metiri Group. Dr. Williams specializes in the design and evaluation of learning technologies. She has 30 years of experience in software development, research, and education, as a programmer and systems analyst in the private sector and a researcher and professor of instructional technology at public and private universities. This work includes software and instructional materials development in math, science, and early literacy; basic research in problem solving; and program evaluation in math, early literacy, and teacher professional development. She has authored or co-authored numerous articles on her work in these projects. She has taught courses relating the design and use of technology to learning theory, to teacher professional development, and to problem solving.

As part of her work with the Metiri Group, Dr. Williams provides evaluation and research services. She has been or is currently serving as an evaluator on multiple projects including TLINC (Teachers Learning in Networked Communities) for the National Commission on Teaching and America's Future as well as numerous state and district evaluations. She has also co-authored studies for the Regional Educational Laboratory Mid-Atlantic. In addition she serves as a reviewer for Metiri's database, Technology Solutions that Work.

RESEARCH ASSOCIATE

Lauren Garcia, M.A. is a Research Associate at the Metiri Group. Ms. Garcia has extensiveexperience coordinating research studies and conducting statistical analyses using SPSS as well as considerable experience creating and coding observation and interview protocols. She holds a Masters degree from Claremont Graduate University in applied social research and evaluation and has research experience working with AIDS orphans in Kenya. Prior to joining the Metiri group, she worked as a study coordinator at AIDS Project Los Angeles, where she coordinated research studies for the Network for AIDS Research in Los Angeles (NARLA). In addition, Ms. Garciaworked on the Reading First Evaluation in elementary schools, for Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD), in the Research and Evaluation Department.

RESEARCH ASSOCIATE

Daren Reifsneider is a Research Associate at the Metiri Group. She has extensive experience using statistical and database packages including SPSS and Stata, and has a great deal of experience with data analysis and research writing. Prior to joining Metiri Group, Ms. Reifsneider worked as an Education Research Assistant for the Milken Family Foundation's Teacher Advancement Program, where she was involved in several research projects, specifically the management, analysis and reporting of the annual teacher survey data. Ms. Reifsneider attended Pepperdine University's School of Public Policy, focusing on policy analysis and received her B.A. in Politics with a research methods emphasis from Occidental College in 2002.

RESEARCH ASSISTANT

Jessica Baas is a Technical/Research Assistant at the Metiri Group. Prior to joining Metiri Group, Jessica worked for five years as an administrative assistant and web developer for companies in social services. At Metiri Group she works with the online survey system, Metiri Technology Integration Profiles (MTIPS) and has experience using statistical and database packages including SPSS and Stata. She is the web developer for the Metiri site and working on a Drupal based Web 2.0 application for professional development. She has a BA in Communication Studies and a minor in graphic design from Loyola Marymount University.

RESEARCH ASSISTANT

Senita Slipac is a Research Assistant at Metiri Group. Ms. Slipac's focus at Metiri Group is on global education, awareness, trends, and issues. This includes research on social networking, effectiveness of after school programs and teaming and collaboration as tools for improving student performances. She has previous experience working with Non-Governmental Organizations on projects that ranged from the empowerment of youth and women; education; community development; and various health initiatives. Ms. Slipac possesses broad experience in research, grant writing, and project management, as well as field experience in Afghanistan where she spent two months working on program development and training national staff. Ms. Slipac speaks four languages fluently, and has lived in several different countries and traveled extensively. She holds a Masters degree in Conflict Resolution and Management from Seton Hall University and a BA from UC Santa Barbara in Global Studies and International Relations.

PRODUCTION ASSISTANT

Ellie Korn is the Production Assistant for the Metiri Group's work with the Regional Educational Laboratory Mid-Atlantic, multiple evaluation projects with states and school districts, and Metiri's Technology Solutions That Work (TSW). Ms. Korn graduated with a B.A. in English from the State University of New York at Brockport. She has worked in both publishing and education. Her background in education includes working for an International Montessori School and the local public schools' Special Education departments in the Washington D.C. area. Ms. Korn also worked as a copy editor for the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) in Washington before moving to California. Her background in publishing includes: Wiley and Doubleday in Manhattan; Taylor & Francis and NAEYC in Washington, D.C.; and Sage Publications in California. In these venues she worked most often as a Production Editor. She has produced journals in the fields of psychiatry, engineering, nursing, law, information technology, and politics, including Reading & Writing Quarterly and The Journal of Legal Medicine.
