DaisyQuest

Description: DaisyQuest, a stand-alone software package originally developed at the University of Florida, is designed to improve key pre-reading and early reading skills in students in grades PK-1. The skills that are improved through DaisyQuest are phonological awareness skills; rhyming words; beginning, middle and ending sounds; blending sounds, etc. DaisyQuest is designed to be used independently by young students and has an excellent research base.

Developer:
University of Florida

Publisher: Greatwave Software

Grade Levels: Pre-kindergarten through first grade. May also be useful for other at-risk early-grade students.

Cost: $39.95

Effectiveness:

Dr. Joseph Torgeson, developer of DaisyQuest, and associates have conducted two controlled studies of the impact of DaisyQuest on phonological awareness. In each of these studies, the DaisyQuest students outperformed control groups by approximately a full standard deviation on a variety of tests of phonological awareness. This can be equated to improvement from the 50th percentile to the 82nd percentile.
